What if the proposed line is on my property?

If a preferred route includes your property, a SaskPower Land Specialist will contact you directly. We will work with you throughout the process to discuss the project, answer questions and identify opportunities to reduce impacts where possible.

    Will SaskPower own my land?

No. Landowners retain ownership of their property. If a transmission line is approved on your land, SaskPower would obtain a right-of-way through an easement agreement that allows us to build, operate and maintain the line while you continue to own the land.

    Will I receive compensation?

Yes. Landowners are compensated when an easement or SaskPower infrastructure is required on their property. Compensation depends on the land needed and the potential impact. Details are discussed directly with affected landowners once final routes and project designs are confirmed.

Why can't the line be located in the road allowance?

While road allowances may seem like a logical location, they do not always provide enough space for transmission infrastructure or safe access for construction and maintenance. They are also reserved for current and future transportation needs, and permanent utility easements are generally not permitted within road allowances.
