We&rsquo;re studying potential sites for 1 or more additional natural gas power stations to support future power needs in the province. We&rsquo;ll be looking at areas near Swift Current, Belle Plaine and Rowatt south of Regina.Your input is important as we search for the best sites for potential new natural gas power stations. Getting involved early means your thoughts can be considered before decisions are made.We&rsquo;re seeking feedback from Rightsholders, landowners and stakeholders in these areas. We want to know what things we should consider as we study potential sites, and also how we can lessen potential impacts.<h2>Why Natural Gas?</h2><ul style="list-style-type: disc;margin-left:undefined;"><li>We&rsquo;re committed to achieving a net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions power system by 2050 or sooner. Natural gas produces less than half of the GHG emissions of traditional coal and it supports the addition of more renewable energy like solar and wind power to the grid.</li><li>To meet federal government regulations, we need to retire over 1,400 megawatts (MW) of conventional coal generation by 2030. Natural gas is the only supply option we have currently available to build at the scale we need for our energy transition and future growth.</li><li>Natural gas provides reliable power and an ideal back-up to wind and solar. It can be designed to quickly start or ramp up as needed when less wind or solar power is available.</li></ul><h2>We Want Your Feedback &mdash; Use Our Map Tool</h2>During this project, we&rsquo;re working with First Nations and M&eacute;tis communities, local municipalities and landowners to collect feedback. We&rsquo;ll be connecting new power lines to the Rowatt Switching Station south of Regina. The station will become a transmission hub and will support future growth as we prepare to add more power to the grid. It&rsquo;ll connect to the <a href="https://www.saskpower.com/Our-Power-Future/Infrastructure-Projects/Construction-Projects/Planning-and-Construction-Projects/Southwest-Power-Pool-Project" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Southwest Power Pool</a> in the United States (up to 500 MW) and the 100 MW <a href="https://www.saskpower.com/Our-Power-Future/Infrastructure-Projects/Construction-Projects/Planning-and-Construction-Projects/Iyuhana-Solar-Energy-Facility" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Iyuh&aacute;na Solar Energy Facility</a> near Estevan.<h2>We Want Your Feedback</h2>We invite landowners and stakeholders within the project area to visit us at one of our upcoming site offices. (the orange route running east on the map below)</li><li>We&rsquo;ll build a new 12 km power line from the Rowatt Switching Station to the Fleet Street Switching Station in east Regina (the green route running north on the map below)</li><li>We&rsquo;re splitting an existing power line that runs from the Poplar River Power Station near Coronach to the Condie Switching Station northwest of Regina. We need all options on the table to help us reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions in how we generate power, as soon as possible. Nuclear power from Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) is one of those options.The <a href="https://engage.saskpower.com/hub-page/future-supply-plan-2030-and-beyond">Long-Term Supply Plan Draft Summary</a> includes 7 lessons learned during our internal supply planning process and the public engagement process.Along with the lessons learned we shared 8 recommendations that will help guide SaskPower&rsquo;s future. Lesson 4 emphasizes the importance of a diverse supply mix to reduce risk and keep our options open. This includes the recommendation that SaskPower develop new low and non-emitting generation technologies to do so. The lengthy planning process requires us to select a specific nuclear technology and potential site.We&#39;ve selected <a href="https://www.saskpower.com/about-us/media-information/news-releases/2022/saskpower-selects-the-ge-hitachi-bwrx-300-smr-technology-for-potential-deployment-in-saskatchewan" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">GE Hitachi&rsquo;s BWRX-300</a> SMR design and shortlisted two sites near the City of Estevan&mdash;one on the Boundary Dam Reservoir in the RM of Estevan and the other on the Rafferty Reservoir in the RM of Cambria. We will continue to explore land options in the region and continue to work with Rightsholders and communities in the area.Right now, we&#39;re in the site selection phase of the project. Planning for Nuclear Power

In 2022, we started talking to Saskatchewan people about how the province is powered. That&rsquo;s because our power system is changing, and we&rsquo;re in the process of updating our Long-Term Supply Plan.In Stages 1 and 2 of the process we asked people about their values, priorities and about the power supply options they preferred. And then we used this information to develop scenarios that show what our power system could look like in the future. In Stage 3 we asked for thoughts about four scenarios that define possible pathways to net zero.<h4>Stage 4</h4>Our Long-Term Supply Plan is a roadmap. It provides direction for decision-makers to ensure we can continue to provide reliable, sustainable and cost-effective power to 2050. But before we can finalize the 2024 plan, we want to know if you think we&rsquo;re on the right track.The heart of the Long-Term Supply Plan is in the lessons we learned and our recommendations for the future.
